Peter and Kathy Leonard received the 2010 Sami Izzo Award at the WRP’s Annual Meeting on Saturday, October 23.

About the award

The Sami Izzo Award is given to volunteers in recognition of their significant contributions to the WRP and our community. Sami Izzo was a tireless, committed, and enthusiastic supporter of the WRP. She was the first chair of the Down Stream Team and served on the Executive, Steering, and Outreach committees of the WRP Board of Directors. She not only contributed her thoughts, but also energized us with her can-do attitude that helped us see that doing more was possible. Most importantly she made the work of those committees more fun.

Peter & Kathy Leonard

Peter and Kathy have contributed to the WRP as loyal supporters and active volunteers for over 10 years. Peter served on the WRP Board of Directors from 2005 – 2010, and was the Board Treasurer from 2007 – 2010. Kathy has been a volunteer water quality monitor since 2001. In 2005, they gathered hundreds of signatures to get the WRP on the Town of Randolph’s ballot for a special appropriation. And for the past four years, they have helped maintain the WRP’s membership database, learning the MSAccess software and inputting lines and lines of data.

According to Executive Director, Mary Russ, “There’s no doubt that the WRP has benefitted from the Leonards’ involvement…but so have I. On a personal level, I have had the pleasure of getting to know them both. They are curious about my life and give great advice, from growing blueberries to installing solar panels; from watching birds to assisting aging parents. Peter and Kathy are truly present, truly engaged, truly giving people, who make a difference in whatever they do and impact whomever they’re with. Thank you for making a difference for the WRP!”

THANK YOU Peter and Kathy, and congratulations!
